The name Bonte Koe has some connotation with Dutch trade during the “Golden Age” (17th century), namely a vessel and a skipper were named Bonte Koe (or Bontekoe).
In Dutch, Bonte Koe literally means “spotted cow”, and as such has nothing do with trade.
The Dutch vessel Bonte Koe departed in 1660 and 1663 from Amsterdam, Netherlands, for New Amsterdam, New Netherlands (now New York, United States).
A famous Dutch skipper named Willem Ysbrantsz Bontekoe in service of the Verenigde Oostindische Compagnie (VOC, United Company for the East Indies).
